Cheryl makes X Factor comeback as guest judge

Cheryl has confirmed she will return to British TV talent show The X Factor after a two-year hiatus.

In an official snap, the 34-year-old posed alongside head judge Simon Cowell as it was announced she would act as a mentor at the Judges’ Houses stage of the programme.

The announcement comes nine years after the former Girls Aloud singer first took up her judging position on The X Factor. She last served as a judge on the talent show in 2015, alongside Cowell, radio DJ Nick Grimshaw and singer Rita Ora.

Cheryl confirms she has quit The X Factor

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has quit The X Factor.

The singer’s rep confirmed the news in a statement released on Tuesday morning.

Cheryl has decided she will not be returning as a judge for the next series of The X Factor. Cheryl met with Simon Cowell recently to inform him of her decision.

Cheryl has enjoyed her involvement with the hit show but has decided to focus on her music career. She has started work on a new album which will be released later this year.

Cheryl said: ‘I have had such an amazing experience being a judge on The X Factor. I have learnt so much and enjoyed nurturing talent but I’ve missed making music and am excited to be recording again. I want to thank everybody I have worked with along the way, especially Simon who I love to bits. I hope the show continues to produce stars and I wish them all the best.’

Simon Cowell said: ‘Cheryl and myself spoke about this. I totally understand her commitment to making more records. She has been amazing on the show and in the near future we will be working on other things together.’

Cheryl returned to The X Factor in 2014 in a line-up with Mel B, Louis Walsh and Simon and stayed for another season that saw the two former judges replaced by Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw.

Nick has confirmed he won’t be coming back for a second series while it is reported that Simon is planning on getting Louis back for the 2016 series.

Dermot O’Leary has also spectacularly returned as host, though it will be a hit to Simon to lose Cheryl.
